I teamed up with Joseph Abboud to attend their runway show, weeks before we were at the store for fitting for the show. Joseph Abboud slay me once again in the best way possible. I will always have a soft spot for velvet suits in an abstract form and the unique rich colors.
The styling and execution is absolutely brilliant! Array’s of different stripes and prints overlap effortlessly with dashes of bold colors. I applaud Joseph abboud and the FW17 collection for capturing a raw essence of elegant aristocracy. You’ll also find subtle hints of purple in the series inspired by rusty abandoned cars on the island of Harris. That’s what I call innovation!
You guys know how finicky I am with wearing suits lately, as the year arrives I find myself sporting more and more casual threads. When I found this wool suit at Joseph Abboud I was instantly enamored and hopeful that it would be comfortable during this cold days ahead. Fast forward a couple weeks and here I was styling it up in my apartment, ready to hit the humid New York streets and let me tell you, I felt great. My affinity for ‘Gatsby’ definitely shows on this one and the accessories support that. A solid collegiate tie, polished watch and my Joseph Abboud loafer really made the ensemble sing. What I love about these loafers is that they’re not only comfortable but the delightfully simple design too. I’m definitely coming to be more and more of a minimalist and this shoe is the by-product of that.
The Plaid suits with fun accessories will always be in my wheel house.
I kept the styling as simple as could be. I made it very much about the suit and that was it. The idea was approached in a much more editorial way so go with me on this one. I could’ve taken traditional street style or “resort style” photos but instead I chatted with Sean & said, “screw it, let’s take this thing in the studio.” I mean if you think about it, would you look twice or question this if it was in an art magazine? That’s the kind of angle we took, & I hope you dig it like I do.
This month, I partnered with Joseph Abboud to bring my inspiration to life. Often I find myself marveling at vintage photos of the past & all of the nostalgia they carry. It was a much simpler time. For years, I’ve received the question “Where does your inspiration come from?” & every time it’s the same answer ”the past.” This year, in the hopes of separating my content from the rest I’m going to play around more in the creative, vintage space. You’re going to see a lot more thought-out art direction, cohesive styling & elevated editing. To be completely frank, I’m sick of seeing the same crap on social media & I think the next “social trend” is going to be creativity, and all of those who can boast it. Well that’s what I do best, kids! So, buckle up & be prepared to see many new characters from Steven Onoja.
hopefully I made a good statement.
